The historical site
In the middle of Kleinbasel and only a few metres from the banks of the Rhine, there is a real jewel for you to discover. The oldest vaulted cellar in Kleinbasel is hidden under the lounge of a traditional restaurant. The building, dating from 1462, consists of a floor paved with Rhine carriages (Gwäggi), walls and the vaulted arch. The place was built by monks of the Antonite Order of the Diocese of Constance as a nursing hospice with its own chapel. The friars of the order ran this hospice for about 200 years.
Cosy and festive
In this characteristic atmosphere you can spend cosy hours with your guests, enjoying food and drink. The premises are ideal for celebrations of any kind that are to take place in a special environment.
Looking over the shoulders of the brewer
The restaurant above the vault is also worth a visit. From the cosy restaurant you can watch the brewer at work in the brewhouse and fermenting cellar and enjoy a cool beer fresh from the barrel.
Hearty, fresh and homemade
From beer tapas such as white sausages or sausage salad to classic dishes such as pork steak and cordon bleu of veal to vegetarian menus such as gnocchi Parisien and vegetable curry, there is something for everyone. Would you prefer to invite your guests to a regional meal? Then we recommend Brauer Haxe with sauerkraut and napkin dumplings, Suuri beef sausage with rösti or venison medallion with honey-gin cream sauce with Spätzli and red cabbage salad. All dishes are homemade and prepared with always fresh ingredients. Let us put together the menu of your choice.
