Aare loop from Bern
This route, less well-known than the route from Thun to Bern, but no less beautiful, offers us a different view of life in summer in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. We start the tour on the Aare in the lower part of the old town (Schwellemätteli). Along the route you can admire some of the city's historic sites, for example the Untertorbrücke, also known as the Untertor. This bridge, the oldest still standing in Bern, has been rebuilt several times and was once the only one to cross the Aare in the Bern region.
Feeling of freedom
The tour continues through some popular districts of Bern, such as the Lorraine, with its old breweries, and on past the hydroelectric power station at the end of the district. After this section, the landscape changes drastically as the nature of the river is much less canalized than in the upper part of the Aare, giving us a pleasant feeling of freedom until we reach our starting point in Neubrügg, the oldest preserved wooden bridge in Bern, located in the lower part of the municipality of Bremgarten in Kirchlindach in the Berner Neufeld district.
