Make two beautiful torches yourself and enjoy a great aperitif or meal if you wish.

Making the torches

In the bright and atmospheric location below the Üetliberg, you will make two colorfully decorated torches. Thanks to expert guidance and the professional materials available, you will need about an hour to do this. The course of the workshop is as follows:

• Torch cloths are dipped in colored wax and rolled around a wooden stick. Once the wax has cooled or the torch cloth is solid, the stick is pulled out.
  
• Decorative motifs are cut out of wax foil and pressed onto the torch. Decorations made of colored wax drops or napkin motifs are also possible.
  
• Finally, the cooled torch is again dipped in transparent wax, then a torch handle is inserted.

Your finished torch cools quickly and is ready for use immediately after. So that the torch can develop its luminosity, a drip guard is attached so that no wax drips onto your hand when burning down.

Candle making (optional)

If you would like to extend the workshop a bit longer, you can try your hand at candle making with colored wax after the torches have been made. Here, too, you will be assisted by the professional:

• You choose your wick according to the desired candle thickness.
  
• By repeatedly dipping into the liquid wax and cooling in a cold water bath, the candle becomes thicker.
  
• Once the candle has reached the desired diameter, it is cut so that the layers of paint are visible on the outside.
  
• To protect the decoration, the candle is finally dipped in transparent wax.

Total time required (including torch making): two hours. Of course, you can take home your homegrown candles.

In the Atelier, our caterer will serve you a fine dinner in the beautiful rooms. Whether meat loaf with potato salad or pork tenderloin with various side dishes, there is something for every budget and taste.
