Sea voyage with fascinating highlights
Experience a little-known, beautiful lake up close: the Schiffenenstausee near Fribourg. The upper part is wildly romantic with enchanting sandstone walls and islands. From the railroad bridge onwards, it opens up and is flanked by high rock faces. You can discover all of this on a leisurely canoe tour. Another highlight along the way is the cave hermitage above the water, a five-minute walk from the shore. The hermitage was built around 1609 by two hermits. It consists of over 20 rooms carved out of sandstone on two floors and contains a chapel, a bell tower and a secluded garden.
Equipment, catering and possible tours
Secured with life jackets and accompanied by certified guides, you travel in 2-person canoes or tip-proof large canoes for 9 people each. The start and end points are easily accessible by public transport. As a culinary intermezzo, we offer you an aperitif, a barbecue, a cold platter or a hot menu.
The classic tour from Fribourg to Pensier
You will be greeted at Fribourg. After putting on your safety vests and initial paddling instructions, you're ready to go:
- Canoe trip to Räsch (1.5 hours)
- Visit to the cave hermitage (1/2 hour)
- Continue with the canoes to Pensier (3/4 hour)
Short round trip from Schiffenen
This tour starts and ends in Schiffenen. After a welcome, getting changed and the first paddling instructions, we set off:
- Canoe trip from/to Schiffenen with a break at Bad Bonn with a view of the three castles. It takes a maximum of 3 hours in total

Requirements
Swimming skills. Children aged 5 and over are accompanied by adults. Take along: Spare clothes, shoes, possibly rain protection, strap for goggles.
