Learn more about the history of the 430-year-old Capuchin monastery in Solothurn on a guided tour and enjoy an aperitif or a gin tasting afterwards.

Journey back in time

Your guide will lead you and your guests through the former monastery. He will tell you lots of interesting facts about the life of the Capuchin friars, the building and its history, combining facts and figures with amusing historical anecdotes.

The journey begins as soon as you enter the monastery grounds, a green oasis in the middle of the city. You leave everyday life behind and immerse yourself in times gone by. The tour takes you through various rooms such as an original cell, the library and the provincial room. You will also visit the deconsecrated church and choir and take a look at the former tailor's shop. The tour lasts around 75 minutes.

Aperitif and homemade gin

After the tour, you and your guests have the opportunity to solve a tricky competition with three prizes to be won. These consist of delicious homemade monastery products for the home kitchen.

After the guided tour of the monastery, you can also enjoy an aperitif or taste the monastery's own gin. The aperitif made from home-made products includes monastery chnebeli with carrots, vegan trout and herb cream cheese, served with Capuchin bread with sage, thyme and caraway. Various drinks with and without alcohol are available.

The Klostergin is tasted in the former sacristy. You can choose to enjoy three types of gin in pure form or a long drink with nettle gin. During the tasting, you will learn all about its production and history.
