On the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® was launched in 2002 after many years of development, and aims to combine the playful aspects of Lego with the entrepreneurial themes. It has been used to encourage innovation, improve communication, develop new business models, facilitate teamwork, and allow companies, organisations, and teams of all sorts to respond quickly and intelligently to crisis situations.
Goals
A certified facilitator will put an enormous selection of LEGO® bricks at your disposal. Each partipant builds their own 3D model in order to analyse or respond to a specific question. In the following discussion the models serve as the basis on which problems can be solved or decisions made. The workshop can be held at an indoor or outdoor location of your choice. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method allows you to learn how to:
- get to the point: the 3D models present complex situations in ways which are easy to grasp, and intensive collaborations allow strategies to be developed very quickly
- maximise the potential of the team: participants interact outside the everyday context which encourages creativity that might otherwise be overlooked. Participants are fully present and focussed throughout the workshop
- deal with motivation: various ways of dealing with a situation are simulated in an effort to develop a common understanding, clear insights, and a multifaceted basis on which the solution can be implemented as quickly as possible.
Strategic goals
Do you and your team pursue particular strategic goals? LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® has wide application in a variety of areas, allowing you to:
- develop new strategies
- open up new areas of work and see their potential
- build your organisation
- reposition your teams
- optimise communication
- reflect on your company values and culture
- develop ideas for new visions, products etc.
- support innovation and change
- explain crises
- develop and assess solutions
How it works
Central to LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is hand-brain coordination: research has shown that thought processes lead to far deeper and more sustainable levels of understanding when accompanied by hand movements. With the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method, a complex, abstract theme is not only visualised, but made tangible by building models in the truest sense of the word. This promotes insight, inspiration and imagination, as well as encouraging participants to operate with a high level of perception, focus, and commitment.
