Only with one hand
In this workshop, you and your team will develop and build functional prosthetic hands that make everyday life easier for people in developing countries. New Zealander Chris Gulley launched the project in 2019 to give back a bit of independence and dignity to people who have lost their hands. The Hand Project is financed exclusively through team events.
At the start of the event, the participants are divided into small groups, each of which creates a prosthetic hand. The particular challenge here is that all participants are only allowed to use one hand at a time to work on the prosthesis. This soon reveals the challenges that people with an amputated hand have to deal with on a daily basis. Before the teams start assembly, they learn more about the project in a short presentation.
Personal message
As soon as the prosthesis has been completed under the guidance of the professionals, the teams design a transport bag in which the replacement hand is sent. The recipient of the hand also receives a photo of the team that made the prosthesis.
The cost of the course also includes the shipping of the prosthesis and on-site fitting. The prosthesis is serviced regularly and repaired if necessary.
