The landmark of Bern
Every hour on the hour an extraordinary spectacle takes place in Bern: the medieval puppet show of the Zytglogge tower (time bell tower) makes its appearance. The dancing bear procession, the pert jester and the screaming rooster thrill young and old alike, and have done so every day for centuries. Do you know what the statues stand for? Would you like to find out how the mechanism is operated and what stories are hidden behind the thick walls of the clock tower? The tour, which lasts just under an hour, offers you and your guests all kinds of facts and anecdotes about the famous landmark of Bern. And of course, the tour ends with a trip to the lofty heights.
Guided tour, ascent and view
A very special atmosphere awaits you inside the tower. Coolness and silence envelop you. Heavy wooden beams and thick stone walls line your journey into the past. The constant ticking of the medieval mechanics accompanies you through the historical rooms. You take a close look at the gears and apparatus of the old clockwork, follow the progress of the puppet play step by step and find out what the rotating discs and artistically crafted celestial bodies on the east side of the tower are all about. Then climb the 130 or so steps to the viewing platform of the monumental monument. The breathtaking view over the old town (UNESCO World Heritage Site) extends to the mountain peaks in the Bernese Oberland. For fire safety reasons and fire regulations, a maximum of 19 people and the guide are allowed in the Zytglogge (time bell tower).
Target audience, weather and culinary
