Why is honey so valuable?
Have you always wanted to know how a bee spends its life day in, day out? Would you like to find out how honey is made and what makes this natural product so precious? These and many other questions will be answered in the beekeeping workshop. You will be welcomed on site by a beekeeper. The beekeeper looks after bee colonies at various locations in the canton of Aargau and produces Badner Stadthonig, Lenzburger Stadthonig, blossom honey and forest honey. The beekeeper is responsible for the bees in Zurich and produces city honey with them.
Visiting the bee colony
During your visit to the apiary, you will wear a protective suit so that you can experience the busy activity up close. Together with the beekeeper, you will look for the queen in the colony, observe the workers, discover drones and, with a bit of luck, even watch young bees hatching. If the weather is bad, the workshop will take place indoors, with lots of interesting information and stories about the life of bees.
The visit can be supplemented with an aperitif riche offer. The complete aperitif program including drinks can be booked individually.
Optional: Extract honey
You can also attend a honey extracting course. You harvest the combs from the colony you have visited, bring them into the honey room and cover them by hand. The honey is then centrifuged in a large centrifugal extractor, passed through a fine sieve and filled into jars. At the end of the course, you can enjoy a delicious snack with fresh plaited bread and warm honey. Of course, you can also buy the honey on site.
